Needle Felting Tools

Needle Felting Tools

Choose tools for needle-felt appliqué

Compare a stencil, a holder and a work surface for the motif you want to add.

Test the wool and the base fabric

Check the material guidance for the holder you use. Clover lists several wool and cotton bases for its 8900. Try the combination on a scrap before working on the finished piece, especially if the fabric is unfamiliar.

Match the holder to the shape

A single needle can place fiber in a small opening or along a narrow edge. Clover’s 8901 can be set up with one or two needles for detail and outlines. Use a wider group for a broader region only when the template and work surface give you enough clearance.

Choose a stencil that fits the area

Check the shape and size of the actual opening. For an eye or nose detail, compare an individual small stencil with an assortment of larger decorative shapes. Confirm what is included before ordering.

Guide questions

Can a stencil be used as a work surface?

Use the template to locate the motif. The mat or pad is the supporting surface for the needle and fabric.

How do I keep two faces consistent across a project?

Use the same opening for the overall outline and check the position of the individual features before compacting the wool. An opening controls shape and placement starts with your layout.

What should I try before working near a narrow corner?

Check how much room the points have inside the cutout and try the setup on a scrap. Follow the holder directions for using fewer needles if its wider setting has limited clearance.

Which accessory suits the job?

  1. Compare the pen for a narrow line or precise shape with the larger head for a broad motif. Check the fabric and supporting mat for each setup.

  2. Choose the Hyamass set for a full head silhouette. The OSOLADY openings help place an individual eye, nose or ear after the main shape is in place.

  3. Choose stencil sheets to repeat an outline on fabric. Use the clear edge tool when you already have a small flat part and want to hold its exposed edge in position.
