Needle Felting Tools

Needle Felting Tools

Change and store hand felting needles

Check the manual for your holder, and choose a way to keep the points and profiles identifiable.

Start from the holder’s instructions

A documented replacement is easier to identify by its part number than by the color of the metal. Follow the maker’s procedure for the body you own. Clover provides separate instructions for the 8900 refills and specifies using them in that tool.

Keep the working part straight

Heidifeathers recommends moving a needle straight in and out. If it does not enter the wool easily, stop and check the surface, fiber and needle choice. Avoid levering sideways or forcing it into dense material.

Keep profiles separate between projects

Use the pack’s case or labeled compartments for loose needles. Keep the maker’s gauge and profile information with the needle. Use a holder cap or guard as the manufacturer directs between sessions.

Guide questions

Can I use a needle to pull loose wool from a brush mat?

Use the cleaner specified for the brush. Clover warns against lifting loose fiber with the sharp felting needle because it can break.

What should I label when I store spare needles?

Record the profile, gauge and matching holder model on the container. Use the maker's descriptions if two points look similar.

When should I check the holder instructions again?

Check them when changing models or switching a tool between supported configurations. Confirm how to seat and cover the points before putting the holder away.

Which accessory suits the job?

  1. Choose the fine refill when you need to replace points in the 8900. Choose the claw and cleaner to remove loose fibers from the brush mat without using a needle as a cleaning tool.

  2. Compare the fine and heavy refill profiles for the 8900 before opening the holder. Use the model code and maker's instructions to check the match.
